Saturday September 13 , 2014 we hosted an education day in Mount Hope for the Ontario Christmas Tree Farmers.
The Ontario Christmas Tree Farmers Field Day is an education day with an emphasis on new and smaller growers.
Agenda
1. Bill Bagg of Preston with Lou Kociuk of Pt Rowan to speak about soil testing and to demonstrate a soil test and then cover what trees will suit the test results. Both grow Fraser fir.
2. Brad Clements and Leo of Benjamin tree farms will demonstrate how to calibrate a hardy field sprayer.
3 Joe from Chick-a-Dee tree farm on keeping a spray log and demonstrating use of a map to keep track of field work.
4. Betsy Lamb from Cornell on IMP.
LUNCH
5. Marilyn Wilkinson from Accounting Plus Canada, to talk briefly on farm taxes.
6. Marie from People in Connection, to talk on Integrating online and social media promotions.
7. Back at the farm Merck from the perfect Christmas tree will be demonstrating tree pruning.
Our farm has about twenty acres of trees so it won’t take too much time to do a tour of the farm.
The local Koyoti dealer had some equipment here and I have set aside an area for playing and digging for those interested.
I also set aside an area for a buy and sell area.
